What it Means to Create Freely
‘To create freely is our birth right and it needs to be protected with all our heart. So that creativity can truly become our personal sanctuary once more:
‘A sacred space filled with wonder, excitement, aliveness and non judgment. Where we can become whole again in our being. Diving into the land of the wild, creative spirit.’
I believe we must not be hung up too much on to dos and not to dos. The fear of failure or the hope for acknowledgment shouldn’t be in the driver’s seat. Because we might lose out on the most interesting pieces. The ones, that not only have the power to transform our own life, but also the life of others.
I believe if we bring too much intellectualisation and analysing into the creative process itself, we kind of kill parts of it, before it had the chance to unfold. I believe if we analyse, strategise too much, that we fall prey to creating the same all over, lose the chance to be led into new territory.
I believe if we try to control the unruliness of the creative spark, which lives in each one of us, we create clean, nice art, that’s decorative but maybe cut off from our souls. We need to surrender to it, by working with techniques which are more embodied and steeped in improvisation. Learning to say yes, to what wants to come through! Trusting ourselves, going on a journey of self-discovery, where lost, unexpressed parts of ourselves can re-emerge.
There’s something freeing in creating for creation’s sake. This is the safe realm where you can allow yourself to shine, being unapologetic. It’s the path to our own quirky, unique self expression.
Creativity as a wild, unbridled force isn’t interested in any trends or being cool.
Unless we commit to being a creative rebel and free spirit, we will easily fall prey to someone else’s agenda. Paint in a certain style, that’s accepted by our peers, edit ourselves while writing a poem to be politically correct and not offend anyone ever.
Creating freely means saying yes to being multifaceted rather than a one-dimensional image version of ourselves. It’s about being unafraid to explore anything and everything we are drawn to. Be it very dark, be it comical (or both), nonsensical, surreal, silly, clever, etc.
In our creative sanctuary we can be funny, at times deep, at others full of wrath etc. It’s all allowed to be. This realm is limitless. There’s always something more to discover, something else to unearth. It’s a never ending adventure our wild, creative spirit asks us to embark on.
Because that’s why we are here; to create freely’
