My thoughts about life coaching nowadays!
There’s a reason, why I nearly stopped offering Life Coaching altogether. It being, that there are many developments within the coaching industry I don’t agree with at all.
To put it sarcastically:
‘Just call yourself a life coach, offer packages and sessions, that are exorbitantly expensive and surpass any trained therapist’s pricing. Play mainly into the self improvement, self help market. Sell the hope for a better version of people’s selves, the self actualised one, the one of the perfect, awakened being and you’re game.’
I did my training in Life Coaching around 20 years ago, when most didn’t really know what it was. With a masters in Social Work, I liked the idea of helping people on their journey, encouraging them. And introducing actionable steps to achieve the client’s vision. That’s what made the coaching experience appealing to me.
Working tirelessly on self improvement has become very popular in recent years. Optimising oneself seems to be the new ideal.
Unfortunately it quickly becomes an endless chase for some unattainable goal, while feeling more and more inadequate on the inside.
Maybe secretly many of us wanna be perfect, so that finally we won’t have any problems with other not so nice people anymore and everybody will fall in love with us…
Right, as if that ever were to happen!
For people with traumatic childhood backgrounds or the experience of narcissistic abuse, or any other form of emotional abuse, falling prey to the self improvement industry, instead of finding the right therapy can be detrimental, enforcing their ingrained belief of not being good enough, ever!
I personally can tell you, that it has been a very long, winded journey, until I finally came to the conclusion it wasn’t me, who was at fault. That I wasn’t the one to blame, for other peoples nasty behaviour.
No meditation retreat, self improvement technique and all the other things I tried were able to address the underlying issues I have been dealing with basically most of my life.
It is thanks to people like Dr. Ramani, her YouTube videos as well as ‘Online Healing program from Narcissistic Abuse’ that I finally understand, what’s been really going on for me, as well as moving forward and onwards, step by step.
That’s why it is close to my heart, offering a coaching aimed at fellow survivors of narcissistic abuse and others, who had to endure toxic systems.
It’s called ‘Pulling away & coming into your own’.
Pulling away is about emotionally distancing ourselves from toxicity, as well as to bring compassion to internalised, harsh inner, antagonistic critics. Coming into your own is about using creative tools like improvisation, writing, drawing etc. to recover lost parts and finding more fulfilling self expression.
For those, who would like to embark on that journey with me, I do strongly recommend booking a 30 min free consultation to see whether it’s a good fit.
The work of healing from narcissism or other toxic influences needs to be accompanied by someone professional like Dr. Ramani or a therapist, who is trauma informed. Life Coaching is either an additional help on getting all of yourself back online, or beneficial at a time, where you already are so much further down the road of healing.
I am also going to offer very affordable lessons in the ‘Art of Improvisation’ for those, who just would like to rediscover their creative bone, or enhance their own creativity in a way they can create things more original.
This Life Coaching will be really about learning the tool of improvisation in different media, whatever is most useful to you and your needs. I will draw from my background in theatre and improvisation, as well as sharing tools in how I create into the unknown.
The ‘Art of Improvisation’ is not suitable for those, wanting to tackle mainly personal issues. If you’re not sure, let’s have a chat.
I would like to conclude, that the way I see and wanna use life coaching, it’s not about self improvement, but about befriending and rediscovering ourselves more. Finding the courage to show up fully with our talents in this crazy world. Being in sink with ourselves instead of who we think we are supposed to be.
I wanna help introverts, sensitive souls to see themselves and their wonderful abilities clearly. Finding and expressing their own, unique voice.
Another really important note, life coaching is not a replacement or alternative to therapy. It’s crucial for people to be discerning and to be willing to look closer at what it is they really need at this point in time.
Here’s to hopefully bringing more magic and soul back into the world :-)
